Areas of knowledge:

  • Monitoring Sensors
  • Vegetation Monitoring

Education:

M.Sc. in Sustainable Resource Management (Specialized in geo-spatial big data management), B.Sc. in Agricultural sciences (EARTH University –  Costa Rica), and Technician diploma in accounting and finances (C.T.P.H. – Costa Rica).

Areas of expertise:

My areas of expertise are geospatial big data analysis and visualization, agricultural research and production, grid-based modeling, and accounting. I aim to deepen into interdisciplinary sustainability projects related to big-data processing, data gathering or field implementation, on the precision agriculture and forestry areas.

Background

I have been project manager of agricultural related businesses in Costa Rica (urban plantations, insect farming and cattle management). As a researcher, I developed biological controlling methods of pests at banana plantations in Perú and worked with satellite imagery at the National Institute for Space Research in Brazil. Lately, I worked in interdisciplinary research teams on developing applications with sensors data for detecting drought in German, Cambodian, Mozambique, Ethiopian, Peruvian and Paraguayan forests. Currently, I work with teams that use robots and sensors from the leaf, canopy, aircraft and space levels with the task of discovering about solar induced fluorescence, which is a measured signal of the sunlight when it transforms into alive organic matter.

Interesting fact about you:

When I was 20, I spent every afternoon of a 4-months internship in Perú walking the forest trails in my quest to see the jaguar in the wild. Additionally I am interested in developing Blockchain applications for exchanging value across borders without banking fees and in favour of the environment.

Favorite Quote:

Supporting good ideas from people in social, political and economic disadvantage is a must to achieve a global sustainable development. Sustainability works better in cross-border teams. If the innovative idea of a person to improve his environment doesn’t receive support, possibly there will be nobody doing that. We believe in these ideas and want them to flourish and spread.
