Environmental Impact

To limit global mean warming to a safe level and keep it well below 2.0°C, 197 countries have adopted the UNFCCC Paris Agreement to date. However, current global emissions have not started to decline yet and fossil fuel emissions from human activity are driving up Earth’s temperature — yet something else is at work. 

For those of us who know Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, the powerful images remind us of the hills and green fields, the local markets and fresh air, family Sundays, and empanadas in Pisac. However, it also reminds us of the permanent and uncontrolled expansion, the lack of decent public transport, the mudslides and floods with great economic losses and years of reconstruction.
